Penelope Wheated Bourbon is a new addition to Penelope Bourbon's Core Series of bourbons. By adding an approachable wheated bourbon that offers diversity due to its proof and pricing points, the most recent innovation broadens the Penelope collection. Available nationwide in February, Penelope Wheated is bottled at 95 percent (47.5% ABV) and has a suggested minimum retail price of $39.99.
The portfolio, which already includes award-winning Architect, Barrel Strength, Four Grain, and Toasted, is diversified by Wheated Bourbon, the fifth key expression in Penelope's key Series. With a profile that balances strong flavor and smooth drinkability, wheated enhances the current expressions.
"Wheated bourbons are more popular than ever, and we think we hit the mark with this one, from flavor to proof to price. It'll be a welcomed addition to our core line up." ~ Michael Paladini, Penelope founder and vice president of strategy for MGP
With a carefully balanced mash bill of 74% corn, 16% wheat, 7% rye and 3% malted barley, Wheated delivers a rich, sweet character with a smooth finish. A welcoming bourbon with depth and complexity is produced by the addition of rye, which provides just the proper amount of spice. In addition to flavors of vanilla, honey, caramel apple, and faint notes of orange zest, Wheated opens with scents of light wood, sweet corn, apple, and pear. A hint of cinnamon spice, roasted oak, and lingering brown sugar are all present in the aftertaste.
"Wheated is the perfect addition to the Core Series portfolio. With its 95 proof point, Wheated brings full-bodied depth and complexity. A balance in blending we've been looking forward to releasing." ~ Danny Polise, Penelope founder and master blender
