Texas' first legal bourbon distillery, Garrison Brothers, has announced the highly anticipated 2025 release of its Lady Bird bourbon—a honey-infused, cognac-finished masterpiece that pays homage to the late First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson. This limited-edition bourbon, first introduced in 2023, has already gained significant recognition for its rich flavors and charitable impact.
Release Details and Availability
The 2025 release of Lady Bird will see a total of 7,110 bottles produced. The first 1,000 bottles will be sold exclusively at the distillery’s Hye, Texas location on April 5, 2025. Starting at 8 a.m., these bottles will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Following this initial release, the remaining bottles will go on sale online by May and will also be distributed to retailers, bars, and restaurants across the country. Each bottle is priced at $179.99.
In addition to offering a unique bourbon experience, Garrison Brothers continues its commitment to community support. For every bottle sold, the distillery donates $5 to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. Since Lady Bird’s debut, sales have contributed over $67,000 to the nonprofit, which works to preserve and promote native Texas wildflowers.
Crafting a Distinct Bourbon
Lady Bird bourbon begins as Garrison Brothers’ signature Small Batch bourbon, which is aged for four years in American white oak barrels. The bourbon is then infused with Burleson’s Texas Wildflower Honey for eight to nine months, creating the distillery’s HoneyDew expression. This is followed by an additional three-year aging process in French Cognac XO casks, resulting in a uniquely layered profile.
The bourbon is bottled at an impressive 114 proof and hand-sealed with Prairie Purple wax, a color that symbolizes its connection to Lady Bird Johnson and her dedication to Texas wildflowers.
Flavor Profile and Tasting Notes
According to Master Distiller Donnis Todd, Lady Bird delivers a harmonious balance of honey and cognac flavors. Tasting notes include freshly cut grass, sweet honey, black cocoa waffle cone, honey wafers, and buckwheat pancakes. These are complemented by rich undertones of dark chocolate-covered cherries, malted milk balls, cognac cherries, dried figs, and plums.
The 2024 release of Lady Bird received widespread praise for its bold flavors, with reviewers noting its honey-forward nose, blackberry and cherry accents, and a finish rich in char and black pepper. The 2025 release is expected to build on this complexity, providing bourbon enthusiasts with an elevated tasting experience.
Honoring a Texas Icon
Lady Bird bourbon is more than just a drink—it’s a tribute to Lady Bird Johnson’s legacy. Known for her efforts in conservation and her commitment to preserving native Texas wildflowers, Johnson’s vision inspired the creation of this bourbon. Garrison Brothers Co-founder Nancy Garrison and Master Distiller Donnis Todd designed Lady Bird bourbon to reflect the natural beauty and flavors of Texas.
“Our Lady Bird bourbon honors the incredible work of Lady Bird Johnson,” Nancy Garrison stated. “We are thrilled to support the Wildflower Center’s special programs and continue celebrating her legacy through this release.”
Supporting Conservation and Community
Garrison Brothers’ partnership with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center goes beyond financial contributions. On April 5, the Wildflower Center will host an informational tent at the distillery’s release event, offering guests the opportunity to learn about its environmental efforts.
Additionally, Garrison Brothers sponsors the LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour, an event celebrating the Johnson family’s history and connection to Texas. The 2025 tour is scheduled for April 2, adding another layer of community engagement to the distillery’s activities.
