Detroit City Distillery, a well-known name in the world of craft spirits, is excited to unveil its latest creation: the Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon. This new addition to their lineup brings together the distinctive qualities of Michigan and Kentucky bourbons, creating a unique blend that highlights the best of both regions.
The Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon is a result of a thoughtful mix of 50% Detroit City Distillery bourbon and 50% Kentucky wheated bourbon. The Detroit portion of the blend is made from grains sourced from local Michigan farms, ensuring that the bourbon carries a touch of local flavor. The Kentucky portion, on the other hand, adds a classic wheated bourbon profile that complements the Michigan grains perfectly.
This new bourbon has been aged for at least four years in new white American oak barrels, which contributes to its robust flavor profile. Bottled at 100 proof, it offers a complex array of tasting notes. Upon first sip, drinkers will experience a fresh apple flavor, which is then balanced by the sweetness of molasses. The taste is further enriched by smoky notes reminiscent of a cigar, combined with a hint of orange marmalade. The bourbon finishes with smooth vanilla and buttery toffee, ending with a spicy kick of black pepper that adds a final layer of complexity.
The official debut of Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon will take place at a special release party on August 23, 2024. The event will be held at Detroit City Distillery's tasting room, located at 2462 Riopelle Street in Detroit’s Eastern Market. The party will run from 4 to 11 p.m., and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase bottles from the first batch, sample a variety of whiskey flights and bourbon cocktails, and enjoy a limited-run Detroit vs. Kentucky cocktail menu.
Each 750-millimeter bottle of Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon is priced at $55. Interested buyers can purchase the bourbon at the distillery's tasting room or online for in-person pickup through Detroit City Distillery’s website. Later in the year, the bourbon will also become available at liquor and grocery stores.
J.P. Jerome, the master distiller and co-owner of Detroit City Distillery, shared his thoughts on the new release, saying, “We like to say this bourbon was inspired by a hundred years of dishonest activities in search of an honest drink. Others may say it’s blasphemous to blend Michigan and Kentucky whiskey, but we wouldn’t be who we are if we didn’t make what we like to drink. Our Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon represents the best of Michigan combined with fine Kentucky Bourbon. Finding new combinations that work is really what we’re all about.”
Detroit City Distillery is renowned for its small-batch artisanal spirits, including bourbon, whiskey, rye, gin, and vodka, all made with locally sourced ingredients. The introduction of Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon marks an exciting new chapter in their spirit offerings, showcasing their commitment to innovation and quality in the world of craft distilling.
