Garrison Brothers and Tuff Shed Built Something Special in the Texas Hill Country
There's a small building sitting on the grounds of Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas right now that a lot of people would love to have in their backyard. It started as a collaboration between two American companies that take their work seriously, and it turned into something that looks a lot less like a storage shed and a whole lot more like the kind of space a man actually wants to spend time in.
Garrison Brothers Distillery, the first and oldest legal whiskey distillery in Texas, has teamed up with Tuff Shed, Inc. to build what they're calling the Backyard Bourbon Barn. The result is a 10 by 12 structure based on Tuff Shed's PRO Tall Ranch model, but calling it a shed undersells it by a wide margin.
What They Actually Built
From the outside, the thing already stands apart. It features a clerestory roof, metal roofing, double doors with built-in transom windows, and an exterior paint scheme that gives it a sharp, finished look. This isn't the kind of structure that blends into the background of a yard and gets forgotten about.
But the outside is just the introduction. Step through those double doors and what opens up is a finished Hill Country bourbon retreat. The interior is lined with barn wood siding and has a finished floor underneath it. There's a six-foot bar, shelving, a leather chair, and a leather sofa. Garrison Brothers collectible memorabilia is spread throughout. A custom LED sign and warm lighting pull the whole thing together. The space was designed and built out by the Garrison Brothers team themselves, and it shows.
This isn't a converted storage space with a folding table and a mini fridge crammed into it. The people behind it built it to feel like a private whiskey room, and from every description, that's exactly what it feels like.
Two Companies That Think Alike
What makes this partnership work isn't just the finished product — it's the fact that both companies operate the same way. Garrison Brothers was founded in 2006 by Dan and Nancy Garrison in Hye, Texas, and their bourbon first hit the market in 2010. Every drop is made from Texas-grown grain, distilled and aged under the Hill Country sun, proofed with pure rainwater, and bottled by hand at the ranch. They've built their entire reputation on doing things the right way and not cutting corners.
Tuff Shed has been operating the same way since 1981. Founded in Denver, Colorado, the company works directly with customers to design buildings for their specific needs, then manufactures and installs those buildings on-site. After 45 years in the business, their name carries real weight when it comes to quality construction.
Rob Cordes, V.P. of Marketing at Garrison Brothers Distillery, put it plainly: "The Garrison Brothers Tuff Shed Backyard Bourbon Barn is exactly the kind of partnership we love. It brings together Tuff Shed's quality construction with the Garrison Brothers belief that anything worth doing is worth doing right. As two family-owned businesses, we're proud to put our names on something made with this much care, craftsmanship, and character."
Phil Worth, V.P. of Marketing at Tuff Shed, made clear that this kind of project isn't entirely new territory for his company, even if this version takes things further than most. "We're fond of saying that Tuff Shed buildings have a million uses," Worth said. "Customers send us their photos of how they've transformed their Tuff Shed into a home office, home gym, craft studio, rec room, reading nook… you name it. So to partner with another great, long-standing company like Garrison Brothers on The Backyard Bourbon Barn seems like a natural fit."
You Can See It for Yourself
The Backyard Bourbon Barn isn't just a photo op or a concept piece. From mid-May through the end of September 2026, anyone visiting the Garrison Brothers distillery for tours or special events can walk inside and see it in person. The Garrison Brothers team is also planning a series of activations and events inside the barn during that window, with details being released through their social media channels as those plans come together.
For anyone who's been looking for a reason to get out to the Texas Hill Country and visit the distillery, this is a good one. The combination of a working tour of the first legal whiskey distillery in Texas and a look inside a fully built-out backyard bourbon room makes for a pretty solid afternoon.
There's a Sweepstakes — and It's Worth Entering
Here's where things get interesting for people who can't make the trip to Hye, Texas. Garrison Brothers and Tuff Shed are giving one of these barns away. The Garrison Brothers Tuff Shed Backyard Bourbon Barn Sweepstakes is open to legal residents aged 21 and up in 46 participating U.S. states and Washington, D.C. The sweepstakes runs through September 30, 2026.
The prize isn't a gift card or a case of whiskey. The winner gets the full setup — Tuff Shed will deliver and install the Backyard Bourbon Barn at the winner's residence, and Garrison Brothers will finish out the branded interior, the same way it's built at the distillery. What lands in someone's backyard will be the real thing.
There are a few practical requirements to keep in mind. The winner needs to be able to legally receive and install the structure at a residence in the contiguous United States, either by owning the property or by getting written permission from a property owner or landlord. The winner also needs to meet Tuff Shed's site and installation requirements. Alaska, Hawaii, New York, Rhode Island, Puerto Rico, and anywhere else where the sweepstakes is prohibited are not eligible.
Sweepstakes displays are showing up at participating liquor stores across the country, and people can also enter by signing up for the Garrison Brothers mailing list or heading directly to garrisonbros.com/tuff-shed-giveaway. No purchase is required, and buying something won't improve the odds.
Why This Hits Different
A lot of brand partnerships produce something forgettable — a co-branded hat, a limited-edition bottle with someone else's logo on the label. This one is different because both companies put real work into the finished product and because the end result is something that has actual function and genuine appeal beyond novelty.
A backyard bourbon barn done right — with a real bar, real seating, barn wood walls, and the kind of lighting that makes a space feel like somewhere worth being — is the kind of thing that doesn't need to be explained to anyone who's ever wanted a proper place to pour a drink and sit down away from the noise. It's a room for good bourbon and good company, which is exactly what Garrison Brothers has been building their reputation around since they first opened their doors in Texas.
The fact that one of them could end up in someone's backyard for free before the year is out makes it worth paying attention to.
