To commemorate its sixth anniversary, the Ayrshire distillery Lochlea has released a limited-edition whisky.
The announcement comes after the brand's first age-statement whisky, which sold out on its first day of sales last year.
The expression is made from a combination of liquor from casks laid down in the distillery's first year, 2018, just as last year's five-year-old whisky.
Newly hired distillery manager Darren McCormick and master blender Jill Boyd, who took over Lochlea's whisky production after John Campbell left last year, have chosen this year's release.
Three barrels of Bourbon and three barrels of oloroso Sherry have been selected as the expression's six casks.
“It’s been such a pleasure to start my time at Lochlea with the creation of our six-year-old single malt. Three oloroso casks provide a rich depth, with flavours of juicy, ripe berries, sticky dates, and candied ginger. Complementing this, three Bourbon barrels add a touch of sweetness, with delicate vanilla and light caramel lending a brightness that allows the fruit and sweetness from all six casks to truly shine. The finish is rich and lingering, with silky tannins and warm oak spices rounding out the whisky.” ~Master Blender Jill Boyd
In time for Burns Night on January 25, Lochlea 6-Year-Old will be available on January 24. The distillery is situated on Lochlea Farm, which was the residence and place of work of Scottish poet Robert Burns from 1777 to 1784.
The expression costs £90 (US$110) and is only available in 2,500 bottles globally.
