Whiskeys Made for a Rainy Sunday Afternoon

Whiskeys Made for a Rainy Sunday Afternoon

There's a particular kind of whiskey drinking that has nothing to do with impressing anyone or hitting a tasting note checklist — it's the kind you do slowly, on a gray afternoon, while rain taps at the window and the rest of the world goes quiet. These are the moments that reward whiskeys with depth and patience: expressions that open up gradually in the glass, that feel warm without being aggressive, and that pair naturally with a wandering mind. The best rainy-day pours tend to share a few qualities — a richness that settles rather than jolts, a finish that lingers like a good thought, and enough complexity to keep you company for an hour or two. Whether you gravitate toward the caramel-forward comfort of American bourbon, the spiced edge of rye, or the nuanced layers of single malt, the right bottle can turn a forgettable Sunday into something worth remembering.
