Rye Whiskey Favorites
Rye Whiskey Favorites
The original whiskey is rye. This robust and spicy relative of bourbon, which has existed since before bourbon itself, is distilled from at least 51% rye. Fruit balances the rye's spice, while a hint of vanilla and leather richness adds even more depth. As it rests in charred young wood, these unique flavors develop. Rye was formerly the most popular type of whiskey, but the 1950s and 1960s Prohibition laws all but destroyed it. Rye whiskey, the spirit of the old Americana, was produced by Scots-Irish settlers in western Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland. It served as the model for modern American whiskeys. Rye has once again taken center stage today. Rye has no minimum aging time, however "straight rye" needs to be aged in barrels for at least two years. Choose rye-t by looking through this robust whiskey collection from Caskers below.
