I Taste Whiskeys All Year Long. Here's What I'm Drinking Now

For those of us not sticking to dry January, there are some new bottles to be exploring as well some old friends to return to. This is a list of what I am drinking this January, from mixers to new releases these bottles will do a great job and keeping you warm throught the frigid winter.

Woodinville Bourbon Port Cask Finished

Based on the finished 5-year-old Straight Bourbon, this expression adds more fruity and chocolatey aromas to the rich bourbon profile by spending an extra 6 months in ruby port casks. This port cask finshed whiskey is the perfect whiskey for warming yourself by the fire and keeping yourself warm. Buy it now!

Noah's Mill Small Batch Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey

This whiskey has got some funk to it - kind of earthy and musty with notes of tobacco what I imagine a cigar box might smell of. Really enjoying how different this tastes. This small-batch Kentucky bourbon, which can be aged for up to 20 years, won the Double Gold Medal in the 2012 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Buy it now!

Blue Run Ember

Blue Run Spirits' Head of Whiskey Development & Innovation, Shaylyn Gammon, treats the creation of our distinctive blends as if they were pieces of art. Every expression begins with an idea, and Ember is no exception. In order to create a complex, 128.8 proof mix that enhances the char and wood spice aromas without the heat, Shaylyn carefully chose three distinct barrels of high proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon because she was intrigued by the difference between hot and cold. All that being said I do think there is quite a bit of heat which is apparent from the nose through the palette with strong notes of cinnamon throughout. Overall I enjoyed this whiskey out in the cold to truly experience the hot and cold contrast Shaylyn Gammon was after. Buy it now!

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Straight Bourbon Whiskey

When I want something a little bit smoother and lighter with classic oaky and vanilla bourbon flavors I find myself going back to Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. This bourbon, which was double-barreled in custom casks, won the Double Gold Medal at the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Buy it now!

Jim Beam Black Extra Aged Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Now now, calm down. This is what I like to use for hot cocktails such as hot toddies. It makes an excellent mixer and honestly it's pretty solid if you need to drink it neat in a pinch. Great value for money. Buy it now!
