Celebrate World Whisky Day With These New Releases

World Whisky Day is one of the most beloved dates on any enthusiast's calendar — a global excuse to pour something special, share a dram with friends, and reflect on just how far the whisky world has come. Celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May, the occasion has grown from a grassroots movement into a worldwide event that unites distilleries, bars, and collectors across every corner of the globe. Whether you're drawn to smoky Scotch, rich American bourbon, or smooth Canadian blends, the holiday has a way of inspiring even casual drinkers to step outside their comfort zone and try something new. Distilleries and brands often time notable releases around the occasion, making it one of the best moments of the year to explore what's fresh on the market. From aged expressions with serious cellar time to innovative cask finishes pushing flavor boundaries, there's no shortage of compelling bottles worth raising a glass to this year.

Blade and Bow 22-Year

One of the most coveted ultra-aged bourbon releases of the year, Blade and Bow 22-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon returns in extremely limited quantities from the historic Stitzel-Weller Distillery. Bottled at 92 proof, it delivers notes of toasted oak, vanilla bean, honeyed orchard fruit, and baking spice across a long, refined finish. This annual expression represents the pinnacle of the Blade and Bow portfolio and a true tribute to Kentucky bourbon craftsmanship. At $1,100 a bottle, it's a serious collector's prize.

Stitzel Reserve 31-Year

Distilled in 1992 and aged on-site at Stitzel-Weller for over three decades, the Stitzel Reserve 31-Year-Old is about as rare as bourbon gets — drawn from just 13 barrels and bottled at a whopping 163.2 proof. The nose opens with orchard fruit, burnt sugar, dried orange peel, and cedar before deep layers of dark fruit and structured oak take over. With an SRP of $3,000 and availability limited to the distillery itself, this is a once-in-a-lifetime pour. Consider it liquid history from one of Kentucky's most legendary addresses.

Lagavulin 11 Sweet Peat

The first permanent addition to the Lagavulin core range in nearly a decade, Sweet Peat offers a fresh take on the beloved Islay distillery's signature smoky style. Matured for 11 years in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon casks, it balances honeyed malt and subtle salinity against bonfire smoke and warming oak spice. The finish lingers with peat, dark chocolate, and vanilla — making it both approachable for newcomers and deeply satisfying for devoted Islay fans. At $69.99, it's an exceptional value for a permanent Lagavulin expression.

Oban 15 Port Cask

The latest entry in Oban's cask-finished series draws an inspired connection between the coastal town of Oban, Scotland and Porto, Portugal. Aged 15 years and finished in American Oak Ruby Port casks, the whisky layers red fruit, honeyed sweetness, vanilla cream, sea salt, and gentle spice into a smooth, dry finish. The maritime heritage shared between both regions is reflected beautifully in the balance of coastal salinity and fruit-forward depth. It's a refined and distinctive Scotch well worth its $130 price tag.

Johnnie Walker Black Cask

Johnnie Walker Black Cask bridges the worlds of Scotch and American whiskey, built on specially selected whiskies from the Black Label heart and aged exclusively in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels. The result is a sweeter, richer profile that remains unmistakably Johnnie Walker — ideal neat, over ice, or stirred into an Old Fashioned or Gold Rush cocktail. Released in March 2026 at just $34.99, it's one of the most accessible and versatile new expressions in the lineup. Bourbon lovers looking to explore Scotch will find a natural entry point here.

Crown Royal Marquis

Crown Royal Marquis takes the brand's signature Canadian smoothness and elevates it with a finish in fine Caribbean rum casks, yielding notes of honey, brown sugar, vanilla, and hints of tropical fruit. It's crafted for what the brand calls 'Marquis Moments' — spontaneous, celebratory occasions that call for something bold yet refined. Best enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or paired with pineapple juice for a bright and festive serve. Released nationally in January 2026, it retails for $39.99 and is widely available.

Buchanan's FIFA Collection

Buchanan's is celebrating the first-ever FIFA World Cup 26™ with a limited-edition set of four uniquely designed bottles that capture the passion and energy of fútbol culture. The collection includes two Buchanan's DeLuxe expressions and one Buchanan's Pineapple bottle, each featuring vibrant artwork inspired by the streets, stadiums, and communities where the beautiful game comes alive. At $32.99 per bottle, it doubles as a standout Father's Day gift for the soccer-loving whisky fan in your life. Released in April 2026, these collector bottles are available while supplies last.
